Christopher Le Coney

Christopher Le Coney is a senior associate at Kaplan Hecker & Fink LLP.

His practice focuses on domestic and international investigations, regulatory proceedings, and complex civil litigation. Chris joined Kaplan Hecker from the New York office of Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP.

Chris has substantial experience counseling domestic and international clients through investigations and regulatory proceedings involving the DOJ, SEC, PCAOB, OFAC, and IRS. He has advised clients on matters involving alleged sanctions violations, FCPA violations, and potential regulatory exposure in the area of cross-border tax reporting, among other areas. He has also worked with clients to conduct internal compliance reviews and support the implementation of trainings and other internal controls.

Chris has also represented individual and institutional clients in complex civil litigation matters, including in cases involving allegations of securities fraud, contract disputes, and professional malpractice claims, among other issues. He has particular experience in the financial services and accounting sectors. 

During his career, Chris has maintained a significant pro bono practice, with a focus on indigent criminal defense and matters affecting the LGBTQ+ community. In 2016, Chris was a pro bono fellow at the Legal Aid Society in Manhattan, where he defended clients in a wide variety of misdemeanor criminal matters.

Chris is an active participant in the broader legal community and was previously a member of the Corporations Law Committee of the New York City Bar Association. He is a graduate of Yale Law School, where he was an editor of the Yale Law Journal.

Chris graduated summa cum laude from Harvard College with a degree in History and Literature. At Harvard, he was elected into Phi Beta Kappa and received the John Harvard Scholarship for Academic Excellence, as well as the Perry Miller Prize for best undergraduate thesis in American Studies.
